Memphis was struck with tragedy today as local outlets confirmed the passing of Young Dolph. Raised in the southern city, the artist is known to look out for his community with charity drives, financial donations and talks to the youth. According to Fox 13 Memphis, Young Dolph’s life was taken at around 1 p.m. local time on Wednesday. Per their report, “three independent law enforcement sources” confirmed that he was shot and killed. He was 36 years old.
Dolph Killed At Cookie Store
News of his death first broke on Facebook, where users posted videos from the scene in South Memphis. Young Dolph was reportedly visiting Makeda’s Butter Cookies when an unknown shooter drove up and let off the shots, striking and killing him. Dolph had his camo Lamborghini parked in front the shop when police arrived to the scene. It appears Dolph was standing inside the shop during the shooting.
Just a week before, Young Dolph visited the same cookie shop. In a video, Dolph hypes the shop and brags on his oven-fresh, chocolate chip cookies.
Police Confirm Shooting
Prior to confirmation by Fox 13 Memphis, local police alerted the public of the shooting incident. They did not name Young Dolph at the time.
“Officers are on the scene of a shooting at 2370 Airways,” Memphis Police Department tweeted. “One male victim was located and was pronounced dead. No suspect info is available at this time. The victim will be identified once the next of kin notification has been completed.”

Young Dolph began to trend on Twitter as fans discussed his passing and musical contributions. Celebrities and friends have begun to respond to the news via social media, including Bankroll Freddie, Quavo, Gucci Mane, Rick Ross and Megan Thee Stallion. Amid the news, Key Glock deleted all the posts on his Instagram page. Young Dolph’s label Paper Route Empire signed the artist in 2017.
Young Dolph, whose real name is Adolph Robert Thornton Jr., released his first mixtape ‘Paper Route Campaign’ in 2009, per Pitchfork. His debut studio album ‘King of Memphis’ came later in 2016 via his label. He captured his audiences with club bangers like ‘Preach’ and his punchy one-liners.
