A 21-year-old Texas College football player has been charged with murdering who he thought was his girlfriend but later found she was actually a man. Something tells me that this new episode of Catfish will not be airing on MTV.
Officials say that they responded to a call on Jan. 26, about a vehicular accident in the 400 block of W. 24th Street in Tyler, Texas. When the police got to the scene they had found 24-year-old Tyrone Lee Underwood in the driver seat shot to death before running into a telephone pole.
Carlton Ray Champion Jr., was Tyrone’s alleged boyfriend. He was arrested a few days later on separate charges of probation violation and was held without bond in Gregg County Jail. That’s when jail officials got word about Carlton having a warrant out for his arrest in the first degree murder case which then placed him on a $1 million bail.
According to CBS 19, evidence obtained showed that Champion and Underwood were in a brief relationship and communicated through “Kik” ( a social media messenger). Prior to the murder, messages revealed that Tyrone was upset with Carlton for standing her up a day before. He told Carlton that he was done with seeing him but Carlton did not take that lightly responding by saying,”Na f*** this I ain’t done I’m on my way up there, where you gone be at?!?!?”
“We will follow any leads that come in, we will follow them completely because this was a senseless murder,” Detective Andy Erbaugh said. “There were several indicators that there may be bullets fired at the vehicle but we just pulled the vehicles here at the police department and it will be searched pursuant to a search warrant.”
Friends and family close to Tyrone, who was also going by Ty or Tyra, was a nursing assistant who recently was accepted into Kilgore College’s nursing program in Longview. Tyler-Smith County Crime Stoppers is offering a one thousand dollar reward for a tip that leads to closing this case.
Moral of the story is beware of who meet on social media, we pray for the family of Tyrone through this trying time.

The operative words here are: FULL DISCLOSURE.
The title of this story is very misleading! You guys could have a law suit on your hands! Your basically saying he committed a hate killing, which is not the case!
I don’t see a problem here. These MEN need to tell people up front that they weren’t born a woman and let the dude decide if he wants to be with a MAN. It’s not fair to take someone’s choice away from them…this should be illegal.
that doesn’t justify murder.
id say it does you would kill someone too if they took a choice away from you and humiliated and took advantage of you … its just not okay to mess with peoples minds and emotions like that dude should have told him he was a man i dont feel bad for him at all you played a dangerous game and you lost its that simple
wtf? since when is it morally okay to take a life? Move the fuck on if something like this happens to you – yes you have a right to be pissed but who gives you the right to murder someone? you dont know what that person went through, people who struggle with their identity SHOULD tell you but you dont even know that person. Get over yourself. If youre out here killing people that piss u off then you should be in jail too.
No one said anything about moral dude got what he had coming period and if YOU have and Identity issue dont bring other people in your bullshyt my mother always taught me if you mess with the bull youll get the horn soooo yeah #fuckit
SMH its all about morals. They should be honest, but you don’t have the right to take his life because he wasn’t.
you dont have to say anything about morals. You have the audacity to KILL someone because they did you wrong? are all your ex’s buried in your backyard?
all my exes where honest sooooooo no
uhm no. “i was embarrassed” does not justify ending another person’s life.
All i can say is at the end of the day had that MAN not walked around like he had a vajj he would probably still be alive what right did he have is his actions JUSTIFIED ???
And its my damn opinion wtf if everyone was just honest half the bad crap in the world would not happen
It’s hard to feel bad for people who bring bad shit on themselves. If he had been honest from the beginning chances are he would still be alive. Carlton Ray is the real victim here. In jail for something that could have been avoided had the whole truth been disclosed from the start.
Black and gay victim of a black assailant=hate crime.
White and straight victim of black assailant= not a hate crime.
Black victim of white assailant =hate crime. I think I understand now.
I’m from the town where this happend, and if y’all read the article fully it states that Carlton might have already knew that Tyrone was a man. Considering that they had already engaged in sexual activity a week or so before the murder was committed in pretty damn sure he knew that “Tyra” was really a “Tyrone”. Or it could have been just oral, but I don’t know because I wasn’t there. I’ve seen him in person before and it was evident that he was man. He could’ve killed him out of fear of being exposed. Who really knows! Either way it is not ok to take someone’s life.
I’M GLAD U WROTE THIS, BCUZ IT’S CLEARLY STATED, THIS WAS NOT A HATE CRIME AND THAT IT WAS OBVIOUS HE KNEW TY/TYRA WAS A “MAN”…MURDER DOESN’T JUSTIFY WHAT HE DID..POINT BLANK PERIOD…
From the pictures it is evident Ty is a man. He does not remotely look like a female. Sexual relations or not
