You can always count on Wyclef to show up and show out when it comes to his people! His most recent gesture took place after a show at the Little Haiti Cultural Center when he shed light on a 2010 pact to grant 50,000 Hatiatn immigrants residence and legal work in the U.S.
If Donnie doesn’t reinstate that pact, there’s a possibility of mass deportation.
“There’s a workforce of Haitians in every sector of business, and I don’t think we should overlook that,” Wyclef said. “We come to this country, we work hard, and we don’t break the law.”
If you recall, this pact came about back in 2010 after the island experienced a deadly earthquake. Although it’s been a long seven years, the nation is still rebuilding.
“Haiti can’t take 50,000 in right now. Whatever commitment was made to Little Haiti, this is a great way to start — to say, you know what, we’re going to give you all more time to get this country back.”
According to AP, Donnies director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, James McCament, “believes Haiti is ready to accommodate this wave of citizens.” Their benefits could be stripped from under the “temporary protected status.” The order was granted by Barack Obama!
Thoughts, Roommates!?
