According to the Daily Mail, two women claim they were turned away from popular London nightclub, Dstrkt, because of their skin complexion and weight.
Lin Mei, 29, said that she watched as two of her friends, Reisha and Tasha, were asked to stand across the street from the celeb hotspot so the manager could look at them properly.
Lin, who is of mixed race, said she was invited to the club by one of its promoters and invited her girls to come out. The four of them went out in hopes to have a good time, but the two darker skinned girls were not welcomed to enter.
Lin said despite being on the guest list, her friends were told they were “overweight” and “too dark” as if that’s a way of determing ones beauty.
The four women’s story spread so fast that people began to protest outside of the club. One of the girls Zalika Miller said that prior to them getting in the club the promoter wanted pictures of the group stating “If she was going to bring black girls then they’ve got to be of a certain calibre.”
Model Karrueche Tran made an appearance during the club protests and received some backlash for attending the club. She made a statement regarding the situation. She said “It’s unfortunate to hear about something like that, especially something that I Am part of. I’m half African-American too. I have god-sisters and family who have darker skin as well. I don’t support any discrimination. I love people for who they are.”
The club has yet to make a statement regarding the allegations.
