As family and friends continue to mourn those lost due to the tragic car crash that took place in Windsor Hills on Thursday, more details about the incident have emerged.
According to KTLA, a woman claiming to be the friend of the woman who was driving the dark-colored Mercedes that reportedly caused the fatal car crash, alleged that the driver had been in a fight with her boyfriend and that she had been drinking at a nearby location prior to the crash. The woman said,
“She was drinking, and she was not aware there was a red light, and she shot straight through.”
As the cause of the crash remains under investigation, authorities have confirmed that the driver is a 40-year-old woman who suffered major injuries while driving “a two-door Mercedes traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on La Brea.”
NBC4 reports that they asked the California Highway Patrol (CHP) if the driver had been under the influence at the time of the crash, however, they stated that initially, she had been given pain medication at the scene, which would have made an on-site test impossible at that time.
The fiery crash, which was reported around 1:40 pm on Thursday claimed the lives of six people and injured eight others. Officials say, the dark-colored Mercedes ran through a red light without braking and hit two other vehicles at a gas station on South La Brea and Slauson avenues in Windsor Hills.
Six victims were declared deceased at the scene, including a pregnant woman, an infant, as well as, a body that unfortunately burned in one of the cars.
