Roommates, on the latest episode of the popular Facebook Watch show “Red Table Talk,” Willow Smith says that her mom Jada Pinkett Smith was harder on her than her brother Jaden Smith. As Willow was speaking about her childhood, the conversation turned into discussing why Black mothers tend to go easier on their sons.
In an exclusive clip of the latest episode of “Red Table Talk,” Willow Smith spoke about her upbringing, as her mother Jada Pinkett Smith and her grandmother Adrienne Banfield Norris listened. “There is a difference between how black moms treat their daughters and their sons,” Willow said.
She continued, elaborating “Something as simple as getting up at the right time. It was like, ‘You better get up. You better get dressed.’ I’d be in my room going like, ‘OK, I gotta get…’” But then Jaden is there and she’d be like, ‘Uh, so are you ready to uh…’ and he’d be like, ‘Uh, maybe one moment.’”
When Willow recalled always being “ready at the door” to go to school, she mimicked Jaden’s much slower pace, explaining that he’d be “getting his shoes on” without the same sense of urgency she had. Laughing, Jada admitted Willow’s recollection, saying “That’s true. She might have a point.”
This is just the surface of a much larger conversation that seems to be very prevalent within the Black community. “Red Table Talk” airs Tuesdays at 12PM ET on Facebook Watch.
