Will Smith was dressed to the nine’s as he and his wife Jada Pinkett-Smith arrived at the 2022 Oscars. Despite his dapper appearance, Will wanted all the smoke with Chris Rock, who made joke about Jada’s hairstyle.
Chris approached the stage to present the Academy Award for Best Documentary, and in regular Chris Rock fashion, he hit the crowd with a couple of jokes. Eventually, the comedian turned his attention to Jada Pinkett-Smith and jokingly asked if she would want to star in a remake of ‘G.I. Jane’ due to bald haircut. Will initially laughed the comment off, but quickly changed his mind and approached Chris on stage.
The Oscars audience seemed quite confused as Will angrily walked onto the stage and slapped Chris across the face. As Will made his way back to his seat, he made it clear to Chris to, “Keep my wife’s name out your f*cking mouth!”
Chris Rock awkwardly continued to present the award to QuestLove.
While it isn’t immediately clear why Will chose to get physical on national television, one might assume that he was defending his wife against an ill-placed joke about Jada’s health. As we’ve previously reported Jada Pinkett-Smith recently opened up about her battle with alopecia. Jada expressed that she began “handfuls of her hair,” and she initially started to wear head wraps to mask it. She eventually decided to shave her head completely bald.
