Last week, #WillSmith visited #TheTonightShow where #JimmyFallon asked the #SuicideSquad actor to chime in on current race relations. “Hearing people say that race relations are worse than they’ve ever been, it doesn’t feel like that to me,” the actor says. “Racism isn’t getting worse, it’s getting filmed.”
Perhaps, Smith is onto something considering the murders of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile were caught on camera last month. Their deaths sparked outrage since they happened within 24 hours of each other. On the flip side, the killings have continued a much needed conversation about racism in America since a lot of people really don’t get it! Smith likened this dilemma to marriage counseling in which neither party understands what is wrong until it’s all out in the open.
“It feels to me like what happens in marriage counseling: once everything gets out on the table, the truth, once everybody’s said everything they’ve been harboring, there’s a really dark time when you’re just looking at your partner like, ‘Oh my god, that’s what you think?'”
Smith continued, “But there’s a dark before the dawn. When everything gets out, it’s a good thing. It just sucks bad when the truth is out. But I think everybody can see it now. And I think it’s just a little darkness before the cleansing that we’ll have as we move forward.”
Do you agree with Will Smith, Roommates? With any reconciliation, sometimes things can get worse before they get better.
