As his latest film with Martin Lawrence, “Bad Boys for Life,” continues to break box office records, Will Smith is already on to his next project. He is set to portray Venus and Serena Williams’ father Richard Williams in the upcoming biopic about his tennis legend daughters.
Will Smith recently gave fans a look at his physical transformation for his role as Richard Williams in “King Richard,” as he was snapped on set by paparazzi rocking a thick gray beard. The beard of course, is to age him for the role—and we have to say, he doesn’t look bad at all.
Despite not having an extensive background in the sport of tennis when he decided to coach both Venus and Serena when they were kids, Richard wrote up a 78-page plan to ensure he made them tennis stars…and as we know, it definitely worked. He began giving lessons to both of his daughters when they were just 4-years-old.
Speaking of her father’s influence on her career and overall greatness, Serena once said:
“It all started with an idea. It was his idea. It’s changed sports. It’s changed history. He’s been the most important person in my career.”
“King Richard” also stars former “The Walking Dead” star Jon Bernthal as Rick Macci, who coached Venus and Serena as well as Maria Sharapova, Andy Roddick, Jennifer Capriati and other notable tennis players.
Saniyya Sidney is playing older sister Venus Williams and Demi Singleton will play Serena Williams.
Roommates, what are your thoughts on this?
