Last night, we reported to you guys that a judge had issued an arrest warrant for #Cowboys wide receiver #LuckyWhitehead after he failed to show up in court on July 6th. He was accused of stealing $200 worth of merchandise from a convenience store in Manassas, VA, however NFL insider #IanRapoport was able to confirm that Lucky wasn’t even in Virgina. After reviewing his flight records, he found that Whitehead flew from Dallas/Fort Worth Interational Airport to Dulles International Airport in Washington, D.C. about seven hours after his alleged June 22nd arrest.
Could this all be a conspiracy? Well, not exactly, but there has been a lot of funny business. The Prince William County Police Department in Virginia confirmed today that Lucky was misidentified and that all charges against him have been dropped. ESPN reports that the man who was arrested back in June, “verbally provided the name, date of birth and Social Security number of Rodney Darnell Whitehead Jr. to police officers.” They say that they checked this information through the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles database then compared the photo on file to that of the man who was in custody and “acted in good faith” that the two men matched.
What’s unfortunate about this entire situation is that the Cowboys just cut Lucky, an innocent man, from the team without even considering his word or an investigation. It doesn’t look like he will be returning at the moment, as a source for the Cowboys tells ESPN that “they’ve moved on” and that it wouldn’t be “healthy” for them to rescind Lucky’s release.
However, the NFL player’s agent #DavidRich is confident that he will be picked up by another team. He told ESPN, “It’s disappointing, but it’s a tough life lesson for the young man. He’ll be fine. I’ve had three or four teams reach out to me already, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he was picked up, especially with the way rosters are right now.”
The Prince William County Police Department is currently looking for the real identity of the man who was arrested back in June. They also said that the department “regrets the impact these events had on Mr. Whitehead and his family.”
‘Tuh! They better be sorry! On the other hand, watch God do his work, Lucky! What He gives you no man can take away. Keep your head up!
