Whew! Looks like Whoopi Goldberg isn’t here for Meghan Markle’s recent comments about her time on ‘Deal or No Deal.’
On Wednesday’s episode of ‘The View,’ Goldberg seemingly took issue with Markle revealing that she felt “objectified” during her brief time on the game show. More specifically, Meghan sat down with Paris Hilton on the ‘Archetypes’ podcast and stated that she eventually left the show because her role made her feel like a “bimbo.”
Markle’s recollection of her experience didn’t seem to sit well with Oscar-winning actress Whoopi Goldberg, who referred to the gig as a performance.
On that show, you basically had a suitcase and they wanted to know: ‘Is this the deal you want, or is this the deal you want?’ I didn’t know that the people who are sitting there are thinking about you like that. They’re thinking, ‘I want the money.'”
Markle was an aspiring actress at the time that she agreed to being on the game show, which prompted Goldberg to discuss the expectations of performers and actresses in Hollywood.
[Wheel of Fortune hostess] Vanna White is always in something interesting and beautiful, and she’s been doing this. The objectification might be coming from you and how you feel about how these women were being portrayed, and that’s what you have to change–because we’re performers. When you’re a performer, you take the gig.”

Goldberg continued saying, “We’re not journalists, we’re actors. You left, and that was your prerogative. But I feel bad because I don’t think people were looking at these girls like this, I think people wanted the money. That’s TV, baby. But, what did you think you were going to do? You know that’s what the show was.”
Despite her criticisms of the show, Markle noted that she was thankful for the experience and was looking for a job that better aligned with he substance that she had already gained from her college studies, and her internship at the U.S. Embassy in Argentina.
I was thankful for the job, but not for how it made me feel, which was not smart. And by the way, I was surrounded by smart women on that stage with me, but that wasn’t the focus of why we were there. I would end up leaving with this pit in my stomach knowing that I was so much more than what was being objectified on the stage.”
Since her time on ‘Deal or No Deal,’ Meghan Markle landed her breakout acting role as Rachel Zane on ‘Suits.’ She then announced her engagement to Prince Harry in 2017, and was officially named the Duchess Of Sussex after the two tied the knot in May 2018.
