Traveling conditions seem to be a gamble nowadays in Atlanta! Just weeks after the I-85 collapse, crews have shut down Interstate 20 westbound indefinitely after the road buckled between the Flats Shoals Road exit and the Gresham Road overpass.
At first, sources were alleging that the 2-3 feet high buckle was caused by an underground gas leak, but DeKalb County police spokesperson, Major Stephen Fore, has confirmed that there is no evidence of any such leak.
All I-20 West roads were shut down between Candler and Gresham roads around 11:30 AM Monday.
Unfortunately, there were injuries on the scene. We hear that A motorcyclist was thrown 10 to 15 feet and was critically injured.
Drivers who are heading toward Atlanta are being affected by the buckle, and Stephen therefore urges drivers to take an alternate route.
Drivers can exit Flat Shoals Road and use Cook Road to get back onto I-20 using Gresham Road.
The DeKalb County Police. Fire Rescue departments and Georgia Department of Transportation have been assessing the situation.
Stay safe, #Roomies!
