White House Spokesman Claims Trump Didn’t Hear The ‘White Power’ Chant In Video He Retweeted Of His Supporters

It’s not common to see Donald Trump back down from something he said, and honestly it’s not really clear if this is a backpedal but he felt compelled to delete a video in which one of his supporters can be heard blatantly chanting “white power.”

Donnie thanked the people in the video, which was taken in a retirement community in Florida, referring to them as “great people” as they clashed with anti-Trump and Black Lives Matter protesters. While some people looked at it as an admission by Trump acknowledging his racist supporters, most people were outraged that the president actually celebrated a video with that type of racist rhetoric.

As things began to heat up and the video trended on social media, Trump eventually deleted the tweet a few hours later. According to CNN, a White House spokesman said Trump “did not hear the one statement made on the video.”

“What he did see was tremendous enthusiasm from his many supporters,” said spokesman Judd Deere. Keep in mind, the “white power” chant is heard pretty early in the video, about eight seconds in.

Trump’s original tweet said, “Thank you to the great people of The Villages. The Radical Left Do Nothing Democrats will Fall in the Fall. Corrupt Joe is shot. See you soon!!”

Before the tweet was deleted, South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott, who is the only Black senator in the Republican conference, said on Sunday that the video retweeted by the President was offensive and “indefensible.”

“There’s no question. He should not have retweeted and he should just take it down,” Scott said on CNN’s “State of the Union” with Jake Tapper.

Trump often denies his language is racist or inflammatory and dismisses criticism as political correctness. He also has long denied being racist and claims that he’s done more for the Black community than any other president.
