Wendy Williams‘ ex-husband, Kevin Hunter, has reportedly made a new filing in court. According to The U.S. Sun, Hunter is apparently attempting to cash in on his ex-wife’s funds.
According to the outlet, Hunter is demanding to receive two years of back divorce, also known as severance payments, from Williams. The 51-year-old reportedly asserted that the payments were agreed upon in the pair’s Marital Settlement Agreement. To note, Hunter and Williams finalized their divorce in January 2020 after 22 years of marriage, per Page Six.
However, Hunter alleges that he stopped receiving payments from Williams when her legal guardian began in 2022.
“I have not received my severance payments since January of 2022, which Plaintiff is required to make pursuant to the Matrimonial Settlement Agreement. This is an emergent matter because I rely on the severance pay for my living expenses and having been without this income for twenty-three months has affected me greatly,” Hunter reportedly informed the court, per RadarOnline. “Therefore, I respectfully request that the Court require [Wendy] to immediately pay all severance payments which may be due and owing at the time of this Court’s Order.”
According to TMZ, the pair agreed on a severance package at the time of their divorce finalization. However, the amount Hunter would receive from Williams was “confidential.”
According to The U.S. Sun, Hunter is also requesting authority “to execute documents pertaining to Wendy’s AFTRA Retirement Plan.” At this time, it remains unclear what Hunter has to gain legally or financially should the authority be granted.
Additionally, Hunter has also asked for access to Williams’ financial records, which he was reportedly “promised.”
“On December 8, 2022, I attended a mediation with [Wendy’s] counsel and [Wendy’s] New York court-appointed guardian attorney Sabrina Morrissey,” he reportedly stated. “In that mediation, [Wendy’s] counsel and Guardian agreed to provide statements to accounts and bank records they claimed to have gotten permission from the New York court to provide.”
However, Hunter reportedly alleges that those “out-of-court mediation” sessions with Williams and her guardian have failed. Additionally, he asserts that he has not been given access to the records.
“Since October 2021 I have tried to resolve this issue in multiple ways including previous motion and mediation, with no cooperation from the Plaintiff. As a result, I had no choice but to file this motion in this matter,” Hunter stated, per RadarOnline. “I would not have had to file this motion if the Plaintiff did not stop my severance payments and if the Plaintiff would have signed the Qualified Domestic Relations Order for the SAG-AFTRA Retirement Plan.”
According to The U.S. Sun, a source alleged that Hunter has reportedly been told that Williams has “no more money.” However, the ex-husband reportedly does not believe this.
To note, Williams herself even confirmed the sentiment during the ‘Where Is Wendy Williams?’ documentary which aired in February on Lifetime.
“I have no money,” Williams told the cameras. “And let me tell you something: if it happens to me, it can happen to you.”
This is not the first time reports surfaced regarding Kevin Hunter’s alleged financial requests of his ex-wife. As The Shade Room previously reported, in February 2023, it was published by The Sun that a judge denied Hunter’s alleged request for alimony payments.
However, a few days after, Hunter reportedly took to his Instagram Story to slam the “fake news narratives,” per Rhymes With Snitch.
“So tired of these FAKE NEWS narratives… all you old MISERABLE HUERS & outlets be sooo tight when the real gavel drops… anyway.. back to the beach,” he reportedly wrote.
Since then, Hunter has largely remained out of the public spotlight. However, the Lifetime documentary reportedly prompted Hunter to speak out in February.
According to RadarOnline, a source alleged that Hunter was “blindsided” by the series and “deeply concerned” about the impact it would have on his ex’s legacy.
