The Christmas season is upon us, so it’s only right for the unofficial “Queen of Christmas” Mariah Carey to serenade us with season’s greetings. This holiday season, however, may be a little different for Carey — who just might have to share the spotlight with her 11-year-old daughter Monroe Cannon.
The two surprised fans when they took the stage together, in front of a sold-out crowd at Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena last week. The two donned extravagant white gowns and ornate tiaras.
This is my baby girl, here. Eleven years ago, I got the greatest gift. You know what, I don’t have birthdays, but the birthing day was the greatest gift ever when I had my twins, Roc and Roe.
Carey then told fans that she and Monroe were going to sing the Christmas hymn “Away in a Manger” together.
This is our first duet… We’ve been working on this for a minute.
Cannon watched as her mother began the song with her high-pitched whistle tones. When Carey tapped her daughter on the back, Cannon began singing the hymn’s first verse.
The crowd responded with excitement to Cannon’s vocals. And Carey proudly basked in her daughter’s superstar moment, showing off a bright smile.
Footage of the amazing mother-daughter moment made its way around social media and fans shared their reactions.
Monroe and her twin brother Moroccan joined their mother on stage back in 2017, when they were just six years old. Carey performed “Always Be My Baby” at The Hollywood Bowl, and although Monroe belted a few notes, she was shy to sing in front of a large crowd.
After the 11-year-old’s most recent performance, we definitely believe that shyness has vanished.
Roommates, are you looking forward to hearing more of the 11-year-old’s vocals?
