It looks like Wanda Sykes is taking her talents to Netflix for her next comedy special. It seems this time around they have made her a better offer.
According to Deadline, this will be Sykes’ fifth comedy special, but her first on the streaming service, and it’s scheduled to launch globally in 2019.
Sykes, who is a veteran in the game, will produce the hour-long special through her Push It Productions Company. Her previous stand-up specials include the 2003 “Wanda Sykes: Tongue Untied,” 2006 “Wanda Sykes: Sick and Tired,” 2009 “I’ma Be Me,” and 2016 “What Happened… Ms. Sykes.”
This announcement comes less than a year after she revealed that the streaming service previously offered her less than $500,000 for a special.
Fellow comedian Mo’Nique accused Netflix of color bias and gender bias after they offered her $500,000 for a comedy special. Sykes took to Twitter and said, “@moworldwide, thank you for speaking out. @netflix offered me less than half of your $500k. I was offended but found another home. #EPIX.”
No word on how much Netflix offered Sykes, but it’s great they were able to reach an agreement.
