Walmart, Target & Best Buy Will Be Closed Again This Thanksgiving

Roommates, as we prepare for the holiday season, you might want to start your holiday shopping early! Many of us wait til Black Friday to hit up stores to catch deals, but some of the biggest retailers won’t be available. According to CNN, Walmart, Target, Kohl’s, and Best Buy’s doors will be closed on Thanksgiving. Walmart US CEO John Furner said in an interview on Wednesday, “It’s a thing of the past. We’ll again be closed on Thanksgiving. Fortunately, all of our associates will be able to spend time with their loved ones this year.”

If you recall, Walmart announced in 2020 the closing on Thanksgiving, which was the first time in more than 30 years. Target, Best Buy, and Kohl’s follow suit as they did in 2020 and 2021. It’s no secret that the COVID-19 pandemic pushed these retailers to close their doors to limit crowding and spread out the holiday sales season. In addition, retailers also don’t want everyone buying simultaneously. While Walmart’s doors will be closed on the holiday, that has nothing to do with the Black Friday deals.

Reports state the company is bringing back its “Black Friday Deals for Days” events starting November 7th and will run every Monday throughout the month. Charles Redfield, executive vice president and chief merchandising officer for Walmart U.S., stated, “Black Friday has evolved over the years from a single day to an entire season and is without a doubt the most anticipated shopping event of the year.”

Target has also listed its Black Friday deals. Per their website, some of the big sale items will receive 40% off on; kitchen appliances, cookware, laptops, printers and computers, and more. Other deals include gift cards with select purchases. Roommates, drop a comment and let us know what you think about these retailers being closed for Thanksgiving!
