An Alabama mother’s violent outburst was capture on camera showing her destroying a camera and attacking an American Airlines employee after accusing staff at Miami International Airport of losing her two children, who had snuck off to use the bathroom without telling her.
Camila McMillie, 25, was eventually arrested and faced a bond court judge on Wednesday for the crime, which has since gone viral in part due to a clip of the incident being posted on social media, Local 10 reports.
On Tuesday, McMillie had missed her connecting flight to New York City and was at the American Airlines counter when she complained that her two children had disappeared somewhere in the airport.
The Birmingham native requested assistance from the employees to help find her kids, ages six and eight, but quickly became “irate” before turning “violent,” per the police report.
CCTV footage shows as she removes a boarding pass reader off of the counter and then grabbing a computer monitor and throwing it at an airline employee.
“She pulled the boarding pass reader off the wooden counter, damaging the equipment and countertop area,” the release from MDPD told PEOPLE. “As she continued to scream, she then grabbed the computer monitor and threw it at the gate agent, striking her in the shoulder.”
McMillie was detained by a U.S Customs and Border Protection officer around 11:30 a.m. at the North Terminal’s Concourse D. Police officers ultimately arrested her shortly after before taking her to jail.
It was eventually learned that McMillie’s two children had gone to the bathroom without telling her, per the arrest report.
American Airlines estimates the property damage to be about $10,000, while the employee who McMillie attacked suffered a bruised right shoulder, according to Local 10.
A spokesperson for the airline told the outlet that “acts of violence against are team members are not tolerated,” and adding they are working with law enforcement in their investigation.
“Acts of violence against our team members are not tolerated by American Airlines and we are committed to working closely with law enforcement in their investigation. Our thoughts are with our team member, and we are ensuring they have the support they need at this time.”
McMilllie was charged with felony counts of aggravated battery and criminal mischief as well as a misdemeanor of disorderly conduct, Miami-Dade Police Department confirmed.
She was still being held as of Wednesday afternoon at a Miami-Dade County jail, and held on a $4,500 bond, according to jail records.
It remains unclear if McMillie has retained an attorney who can speak on her behalf.
