Now we’ve all come to love VH1 for it’s endless amount of reality shows, but now they will be implementing a new scripted series into the lineup. Back in January their original movie “The Breaks” premiered, racking in a total of 2.6 million viewers and now the network has ordered a full series.
With the way things ended in film it was pretty obvious that there had to be more and now we will definitely have more to see. Based on the best-selling book “The Big Payback: The History of the Business of Hip-Hop” by Dan Charnas, we’ll continue to see more about the behind the scene antics of the music industry from the 1990’s. The book covers 40 years of stories and 300 interviews with execs, entrepreneurs, hustlers and handlers.
VH1 GM Chris McCarthy said, “The Breaks’ is VH1 at its best, intersecting ’90s nostalgia with hip-hop for the masses, both the viewers and critics have spoken, and we couldn’t be happier to continue telling the story that has already connected with millions of pop culture fans.”
Wood Harris (The Wire), Mack (Tristan) Wilds (90210), Afton Williamson (Banshee), David Call (Gossip Girl), Antoine Harris (Ballers), are all expected to return for the new VH1 series.
Who else will be tuned in when The Breaks makes its return to VH1?
