In these volatile times, people are showing who they really are–and in this case facing disciplinary action for it. A football coach at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga is out of a job today for a horrendous tweet he made about Stacey Abrams following the Democrats’ successful efforts to flip the state of Georgia blue.
Stacey, who has been praised for being the catalyst of change against voter suppression in her state with her efforts to mobilize voters, was the target of a racist tweet put out by UTC assistant football coach Chris Malone.
Malone, who has since deleted his Twitter, was fired Thursday as confirmed by Head Coach Rusty Wright.
The deleted tweet read, “Congratulations to the state GA and Fat Albert @staceyabrams because you have truly shown America the true works of cheating in an election, again!!! Enjoy the buffet Big Girl! You earned it!!! Hope the money was good, still not governor!”
“Our football program has a clear set of standards,” Wright said in a statement posted to social media. “Those standards include respecting others. It is a message our players hear daily. It is a standard I will not waiver on. What was posted on social media by a member of my staff is unacceptable and not any part of what I stand for or what Chattanooga Football stands for. Life is bigger than football and as leaders of young men we have to set that example, first and foremost. With that said, effectively immediately, that individual is no longer a part of my staff.”
We can’t also forget to mention that Malone spent the 2013 season as offensive line coach and run game coordinator at Virginia State, a historically Black university, according to ESPN.
It’s important that these racists face consequences and we hope that these agencies and schools continue to take responsibility when those they employ say hateful and irresponsible things.
