Whew! Usher graced ‘Tiny Desk’ with his iconic vocals and it’s clear he drank the tea AND his mic was all the way on!! Fans have been eagerly awaiting Usher to bless ‘Tiny Desk’ with his lengthy catalog of hits…and he definitely didn’t disappoint.
As soon as it was announced earlier this month, fans have been on the edge of their seats in anticipation of Usher being the latest artist to bless popular music series ‘Tiny Desk.’ In a perfect end to June’s Black Music Month, Usher made the most of his 30-minute set with stripped down performances of some of the classics in his Grammy-winning catalog.
Kicking off the show, Usher made the crowd dance a little bit when he launched into his 1997 hit ‘You Make Me Wanna’ from his second album ‘My Way,’ which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. However, it was his next song that immediately went viral and sent him to the top of the trending topics on Twitter. Singing effortlessly and sounding as crisp as the album recording, Usher sang his fan-favorite ‘Confessions’ track ‘Superstar’…and left everyone in awe of his iconic vocal abilities.
He followed that up with performances of ‘U Don’t Have to Call,’ ‘Nice & Slow,’ ‘Confessions Part II,’ and ‘My Way.’ Backed by recently Grammy-nominated artist Eric Bellinger and social media star Vedo, Usher could have easily performed for an entire hour and it still wouldn’t have been enough.
As he spoke throughout his set, acknowledged how happy he was to perform and share his timeless music. “This is Black magic right here. I really, really am happy just to be able to celebrate all the years of music,” he said.
