2024 is turning out to be Usher’s year! The R&B icon just landed three Emmy nominations for his Super Bowl Halftime performance.
Roomies, y’all remember Usher shut down the Super Bowl LVIII Halftime Show? I mean who could forget. The ‘Confessions’ hitmaker lit up the Las Vegas Allegiant Stadium in roller skates in February, surprising fans with guests like Alicia Keys, H.E.R., Ludacris, Lil Jon, and Jermaine Dupri.
The event took fans on a nostalgic journey through Usher’s career with performances of his legendary hits. Now, the R&B star is receiving recognition with three Emmy nominations for the Apple Music Super Bowl LVIII Halftime Show.
This marks Usher’s first Emmy recognition. According to The Hollywood Reporter, he is up for Outstanding Variety Special (Live), sharing the honor with past Emmy winners Jay-Z and Jesse Collins.
Stereogum reports that Jay-Z won the Emmy in 2023 in this category for his work as one of the producers of Rihanna’s halftime show.
Usher is also nominated for Outstanding Lighting Design/Lighting Direction For A Variety Special and Outstanding Technical Direction and Camerawork For A Variety Special.
Other standout stars receiving Emmy nods include Lionel Richie, Selena Gomez, Billie Joel, Lady Gaga, and Donald Glover.
The 76th Emmy Awards will broadcast live from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 15, at 8pm EST on ABC.
The Roomies quickly hopped in The Shade Room comment section to commend Usher on all of his success, declaring that he is experiencing a second prime season.
Instagram user @cultchathrowback wrote, “Confessions still best r&b album of the 2000’s.”
Usher has been making headlines recently, especially after receiving the BET Lifetime Achievement Award at this year’s ceremony.
He also had Angel Reese and the women of the Chicago Sky basketball team starstruck when he visited them following their win against the Las Vegas Aces on July 16.
The Chicago Sky team posed for a group picture with Usher, shouting “Usher baby” at the count of three, filling the room giggles.
Angel Reese got a solo video with the ‘Yeah’ singer and asked him to say “Usher baby.” He gladly obliged, much to Angel’s delight.
