#Roommates, it’s well-known at this point that Hollywood is absolutely obsessed with all things nostalgia. That often results in bringing back classics to a newer generation—and now that has transitioned over into the world of R&B, courtesy of BET and reality TV producer Carlos King. It has just been announced that King and BET have come together for the new musical reality series ‘The Encore’, which will feature some of the members of our favorite R&B girl groups, including 702, Total, 3LW, Danity Kane and more.
If you ever wondered what would happen if you brought members of your favorite girl groups together to form the ultimate R&B supergroup, look no further because it has arrived. @ABCNews reports, the reality series ‘BET Presents The Encore’ is setting out to form the next big R&B girl group by reaching out to some veterans in the game. Premiering June 9th, the series will feature eight former members of R&B girl groups including Pam Long from Total, Aubrey O’Day from Danity Kane, Kiely Williams from 3LW, and sisters Irish and LeMisha Grindstead from 702.
Additional group members are Shamari DeVoe from Blaque, and twin sisters Felisha and Fallon King from Cherish. The ladies will also be joined by R&B solo artist Nivea. The 10-episode series will feature the ladies living together for 30 days in the effort to record an album at a home studio, learn choreography and practice vocals. Speaking about why he wanted to show some love to the R&B girl groups of the past, Carlos King explained that it was all about paying homage.
“I felt that girl groups never got its just do … and I, as a content creator, wanted to … educate the masses on who I feel are the forgotten sisters of music. I wanted to pay homage to that industry and really give these women an opportunity to share their stories and their struggles,” he said.
You’ll recall that last year, the internet went crazy when a previously unaired pilot for another version of the series leaked, which featured Kiely Williams and former Destiny’s Child member Farrah Franklin throwing tons of shade at each other regarding their respective careers. The interest in that show prompted King to work on this new BET series.
