It seems like another racist video has surfaced stemming from the University of Oklahoma’s Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity! Once known as America’s “deadliest frat” for its reputation of physical abuse, hazing, and racially charged behavior, 104-year-old chapter has really crossed the line for a second time.
In a Vine video that was created on Feb. 24, 2014, revealed by the college’s student ran newspaper, SAE’s house mother, Beauton Gilbow, who may have been intoxicated, is seen saying the N-word multiple times as she sang along to Trindad James’ “All Gold Everything” song.
Ironically enough, Gilbow was seen condemning the frat via News9! She played victim saying she was unaware of the racist activity within the fraternity and says that she was in shock. Since OU President David Boren had closed down the SAE Frat House and severed any affiliations with the frat, a GoFundMe page was started in efforts to help Gilbow since she was now out of a job, it had since raised $6,000. Thankfully the page is no longer up since the Vine video appeared.
Fortunately enough, two fundraisers were created to help the house cook, who is actually African American, that also lost his job in this matter. It has raised over $10,000 so far.
Since the first video has went viral, the school had launched an investigation into the video. While the investigation is going on, UO President Boren has made it very clear that he does not take racism lightly and ordered that the Frat house be cleared out by midnight Monday.
“We don’t provide student services for bigots,” Boren said in a Monday press conference in reference to telling the SAE members that they will receive no University help in finding new housing if they haven’t been expelled or suspended already.
This video has outraged many in the entertainment industry. Waka Flocka has took to Instagram where he cancelled his appearance at the frat house.
“I must say I’m disgusted and disappointed in the actions of the SAE fraternity at University of Oklahoma and I will be canceling my scheduled performance for them next month. Racism is not something I will tolerate.”
Even Gabrielle Union blasted the chapter by tweeting, “The fact that a racist chant exists isn’t shocking. The fact that no one at any chapter or anyone who’d heard it thought it was a problem….Is!”
It is true, racism, in my opinion is a learned behavior, this chant has been passed down from generation to generation. It is not an isolated incident and needs to be checked fraternity wide. Check out the video below and let’s chat, do you think she is just innocently repeating the song or is there something racially motivated?
