Tyler Perry Studios To Officially Reopen In July & Begin Production On “The Oval” And “Sistas”

#Roommates, as parts of the U.S. are slowly reopening, this means that Hollywood is also attempting to get back to business—and Tyler Perry is set to be the first. It has just been announced that Tyler Perry’s Atlanta movie studio will officially reopen in July and resume production on two of his television shows.

@Deadline reports, Tyler Perry Studios is now the first Hollywood studio to set start dates for U.S. shows filming in North America. Beginning July 8th, Tyler’s two BET shows, “The Oval” and “Sistas” will officially begin production one at a time. “Sistas” will starting shooting on July 8th, followed by “The Oval” on July 28th—each show will film a 22-episode season in just under three weeks. The July start date has been wishful thinking for many in Hollywood, as most productions don’t expect to return to filming until August, September or even October.

Since the crew of Tyler’s shows is primarily local, they won’t need transportation, however the casts are not, and he will be providing a private plane for them. After they test negative during pre-boarding, they will be flown from Los Angeles and New York to Atlanta for filming. Upon arrival, everyone will be tested and quarantined in their rooms for four hours while awaiting their test results. The cast and crew will be required to test four times over the 2 ½ weeks of the shoot, with Carlos Del Rio, professor at Emory Vaccine Center, serving as testing consultant.

As we previously reported, Tyler Perry set out a strict plan of action to resume filming of his productions—while also keeping his cast, staff and crew safe from contracting coronavirus. His plan is said to be in compliance with both federal and local government regulations. He also reportedly held Zoom calls with the casts of his shows to further explain the plan—and they all approved of the July start date.

Everyone, including Perry, will be required to remain on the lot for the entire duration of the shoot. The Tyler Perry studio lot was once a military base, so there is more than enough housing for everyone working on the shows.
