Coming through with the motivation, Tyler Perry made an Instagram post to reflect on how far he’s come, as he once endured a period of living in his car.
On Monday, the playwright shared a social media post that showed him casually zooming around in a bright blue, two-door Geo Metro.
Once Tyler parked the vehicle, the person recording proceeded to exclaim, “Every now and then you gotta go back and be reminded of where you come from!”
More information was provided within the caption, in which Tyler Perry noted that—back when he was homeless, a similar car served as his “shelter.”
He also went on to express his gratitude and note that looking back on his past hardships makes him appreciative, as “there’s no way to be ungrateful when you don’t appreciate every blessing you have.”
“Every now and then I take my Geo Metro out for a spin. (When I was homeless it was a car just like this that was my shelter). If looking back at how far you’ve come doesn’t make you thankful, I don’t know what will. There’s no way to be ungrateful when you appreciate every blessing you have.”
Perry wrapped up his message by noting, “And if you’re still in the struggle please fight on…. It’s so sweet on the other side of pain.”
We should add that Tyler Perry isn’t the only celebrity who recently reflected back on their stint with houselessness.
After becoming a first-time homeowner, Lizzo recounted her own experience of being homeless, as The Shade Room previously reported.
During a sit-down on CBS Sunday Morning late last year, Lizzo confirmed that—merely 10 years ago—she was facing housing insecurity and resorted to couch surfing and sleeping in her car.
However, looking back on her recent tour, the musician shared that she “was blessed to stay in really nice places” and is fortunate enough to have a home she can call her own, which she referred to as a “milestone.”
“I was like, ‘I miss my house. I can’t wait to come back to my own home and to my bed.’ This is the first time I’ve ever said this. So, I don’t know. It’s a milestone for me.”
Shoutout to Tyler Perry for coming through with the honest inspiration!
