This just in: Twitter may possibly be a part of a state-sponsored hack. Allegedly, the hack was done to obtain personal information.
So allegedly about 37 Twitter users are claiming that they received an e-notice from Twitter giving them notice that there is some fishy business going on –just as a precaution. Guessing, the reaction to this may need more than 140 characters!
“As a precaution, we are alerting you that your Twitter account is one of a small group of accounts that may have been targeted by state-sponsored actors…We believe that these actors (possibly associated with a government) may have been trying to obtain information such as email addresses, IP addresses, and/or phone numbers.”
Twitter hasn’t dropped any names or pointed fingers at a specific group, other than saying they believe whoever it is, may have some governmental association.
According to the Guardian, amongst the notified users are a security researcher and an encryption activist. Most of the others are said to be involved in some avenue of the growing Internet privacy community.
While a Twitter spokesperson could not provide further information, they did, however confirm that the warning emails are real.
Take a look at the official email below and lets chat:
