#Roommates, former “Biggest Loser” coach Jillian Michaels set Twitter on fire recently when she expressed some comments about Lizzo’s weight that caused an intense backlash. Things got so heated, that she took to Twitter to clarify what she said—but that didn’t help matters.
Fitness coach Jillian Michaels is definitely feeling the heat after commenting about Lizzo’s physical appearance during a recent interview with Buzzfeed’s “AM2DM” morning talk show. As the host was stating that she loved that celebrities of different body types like Lizzo are being celebrated in the media, Jillian interjected with her own comments—and that’s when things went left.
Jillian said this about Lizzo’s weight:
“Why are we celebrating her body? Why aren’t we celebrating her music? Cause it isn’t going to be awesome if she gets diabetes. I love her music. My kid loves her music. But, there’s never a moment where I’m like, ‘And I’m so glad that she’s overweight.’”
She instantly became one of the top trending topics on Twitter, with most users slamming her opinions about Lizzo that they felt were hurtful, disrespectful and mean-spirited. Obviously, getting wind of the uproar, Jillian then took to Twitter to offer a bit of clarification.
She tweeted:
“As I’ve stated repeatedly, we are all beautiful, worthy and equally deserving. I also feel strongly that we love ourselves enough to acknowledge there are serious health consequences that come with obesity – heart disease, diabetes, cancer to name only a few. I would never wish these for ANYONE and I would hope we prioritize our health because we LOVE ourselves and our bodies.”
Her statement didn’t do much to calm the current backlash she’s facing. As of right now, Lizzo has not publicly responded to Jillian’s comments.
