Last month we reported on a story about a man who was shot and killed following an argument over a parking spot. The guy who shot him claimed the “stand your ground” law and no charges were filed against him. Prosecutors decided Monday to file manslaughter charges against him.
According to NBC News, Michael Drejka, 48, was booked and taken to Pinellas County Jail. His bond has been set at $100,000.
Benjamin Crump, a national civil rights attorney who is representing the Markeis’ family, said in a statement that the news “gives us a measure of hope that the truth will win and justice will prevail in the end.”
