#Tekashi69 is apparently getting no special treatment in jail despite his celebrity status.
According to @TMZ_tv, Tekashi has been placed in general population at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center as opposed to being held in a segregated part of the pen.
According to the U.S. Justice Department, the MDC is usually filled with inmates that are “extremely dangerous, violent or escape-prone.” Tekashi is in there while awaiting his bail hearing following his Sunday night arrest where he was hit with a slew of charges associated with racketeering, conspiracy, and firearm offenses.
He and five others associated with the Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods were arrested in connection to a RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act) investigation. Tekashi was arraigned before a U.S. Magistrate judge Monday.
The lengthy unsealed indictment alleges that Tekashi and his crew ordered hits on rival gang members to protect their narcotics business and that they committed numerous robberies, shootings, and assaults in and around Manhattan and Brooklyn. Some of these charges carry a possible maximum sentence of life in prison, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office.
“As alleged in the indictment, this gang, which included platinum-selling rap artist Tekashi69, wreaked havoc on New York City, engaging in brazen acts of violence. Showing reckless indifference to others’ safety, members of the gang were allegedly involved in robberies and shootings, including a shooting inside the crowded Barclay’s Center, and a shooting in which an innocent bystander was hit. Thanks to the extraordinary work of HSI, ATF, and the NYPD, the defendants will now face justice in federal court,” said U.S. Attorney Geoffrey S. Berman.
Tekashi’s arrest came shortly after he announced that he fired his entire team and cancelled his tour. There’s speculation that there was deception amongst his crew members, especially considering just days before it was revealed that the man involved in Tekashi’s pistol-whipping and kidnapping earlier this year was reportedly a former crew member.
We’ll keep you updated on Tekashi’s case, #Roommates.
