Yesterday we reported about the passing of LSU basketball player Wayde Sims.
According to ESPN, police in Baton Rouge have arrested 20-year-old Dyteon Simpson for the fatal shooting. He was charged with second-degree murder on Saturday.
Police say Simpson dropped his glasses during an altercation involving Sims. Police tested the glasses for DNA, which helped them to arrest Simmons. CNN reports that Simpson was taken into custody after admitting to the shooting.
LSU athletic director Joe Alleva said Saturday in a statement, “On behalf of LSU, I would like to thank the Baton Rouge Police Department, East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Department, the District Attorney’s office and all law enforcement involved in this case for their hard work, diligence and pursuit of justice. Along with LSU Athletics, the entire LSU family continues to mourn the loss of Wayde Sims. Our thoughts today are with his family, friends, and teammates.”
As we previously reported, Sims was reportedly shot after an altercation broke out across the street from Southern University’s campus, close to a Subway restaurant. Wayde was rushed to the hospital where he passed away from a gunshot wound.
We continue to send our condolences to the family of Wayde Simmons during this difficult time.
