In the wake of Jazmine Barnes’ family mourning her passing, DeAndre Hopkins of the Houston Texans has stepped in and pledged his playoff check to Barnes’ family to help with funeral costs and support to Shaun King, County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, and Mayor Sylvester Turner to help find Jazmine’s killer.
According to ESPN, aside from donating his $29,000 playoff check, Hopkins will also dedicate Saturday’s wild-card game against the Indianapolis Colts to Jazmine.
He said, “When I see Jazmine Barnes’ face, I see my own daughter. I’m pledging my playoff check this week to help her family with funeral costs and to support @shaunking @SherriffED_HCSO @SylvesterTurner in bringing this man to justice. On Saturday, I will be playing in your honor, Jazmine.”
As we previously reported, activist Shaun King teamed up with Merit Law to offer a $35,000 reward in the search for the white man who shot at a black family in the parking lot of a Walmart in Houston, ultimately killing 7-year-old Jazmine.
Services for Jazmine are reportedly taking place on Tuesday, and following the services, mourners will release purple balloons in her honor.
We continue to send our deepest condolences to the family of Jazmine Barnes during this difficult time.
