On Friday, federal authorities made an arrest in connection to the pipe bombs that have been sent to Democratic politicians and prominent figures throughout the week.
According to the New York Daily News, two law enforcement officials did confirm that a man was arrested in Florida.
The arrest came hours after federal authorities said that two more explosive devices were sent out on Friday. One addressed to Senator Cory Booker, and the other to James Clapper, the former director of national intelligence.
The package addressed to Clapper was meant to be delivered to CNN’s New York offices, where he currently works as an analyst. However, it was intercepted at a mail facility in Midtown Manhattan.
Clapper said, “This is definitely domestic terrorism. Anyone who has in any way been a critic, publicly been a critic of President Trump, needs to be on an extra alert.”
The package addressed to Booker was found in Florida, which has become a point of focus in the nationwide investigation into the bombs.
There has now been a total of 12 packages sent out during this week, packages have also been addressed to Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Maxine Waters, Eric Holder, John Brennan, George Soros, Robert De Niro, and Joe Biden.
The packages have been marked with a return address from Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz, a Florida Democrat. None of the devices have exploded on their own, but investigators are trying to determine if they were capable of exploding.
The man arrested was identified as Cesar Sayoc, Jr., 56, of Aventura, Fl. He was taken into custody, and his white van, which was covered in stickers was towed away from the shopping center he was arrested at in Plantation, Fl.
This story is still developing.
