Her cries for help “Please? Officer?” went unanswered as Mia Irizarry was harassed by a white man for wearing a Puerto Rico flag shirt, and now that officer is out of a job. The documented act of racism, captured at an Illinois park, struck a chord in many when it went viral as it shows Officer Patrick Connor blatantly ignoring the woman.
At one point, the officer even turns his back to her as the man continued to harass her and run up on her, wrongly saying Puerto Rico wasn’t American despite it being a U.S. territory.
The backlash made Connor resign, according to WABC 13 TV. The man harassing the woman, identified as 62-year-old Timothy Trybus, is facing two felony hate crime charges. He was originally charged with misdemeanor assault and disorderly conduct.
We’ll keep you posted on any updates, #Roommates.
