A #Baltimore police officer who was suspended over the weekend after a viral video on social media showed him repeatedly punching a man and wrestling the guy to the ground, has quit. The man who was beaten by the officer has been identified as #DashawnMcGrier, and in the video he did not appear to fight back.
Following community outrage, the unidentified officer was suspended and the #BaltimorePoliceDepartment launched an investigation into the incident. According to the New York Post, the department announced that the officer resigned Sunday.
A lawyer for McGrier says his client is facing charges of assaulting an officer from an incident in June, allegations he is contesting, which is why he believes the officer attacked him this weekend. McGrier was not charged in this weekend’s incident.
A second officer is on administrative duties pending an investigation. Part of the police investigation will include reviewing the body camera footage.
We’ll keep you updated on this one, #Roommates.
