Spotify Testing Out An Instagram-Inspired Stories Feature Alongside Select Playlists

#Roommates, perhaps it was only a matter of time before one of the most popular features on social media eventually found its place on a music streaming service—specifically Spotify. It was recently announced that Spotify is officially testing out an Instagram-inspired stories feature that will allow users another way to interact with their music.

@Verge reports, Spotify is reportedly the next in line to get on the wave of “stories” on social media. The popular music streaming service is now testing a new stories feature alongside some of its playlists—which includes a series of short video clips to share personal anecdotes about featured artists and their songwriting processes.

The videos can be accessed from an icon on the top left of each Spotify-supported playlist. Tapping the icon reveals an interface that will be familiar to anyone who’s ever watched an Instagram or Snapchat story, allowing you to tap on the left or right of the screen to skip through a collection of short video clips.

Spotify confirmed the new feature in an official statement, saying:

“At Spotify, we routinely conduct a number of tests in an effort to improve our user experience. Some of those tests end up paving the path for our broader user experience and others serve only as an important learning. We have no further news to share on future plans at this time.”

Since initially debuting on Snapchat, stories features on social media have become increasingly common. Instagram is easily the best known and most popular, but other services including YouTube, Twitter and even career networking site LinkedIn, have all implemented versions of the feature. You may recall that Spotify previously tested out stories back in 2019 with a feature called Storylines.
