Roommates, if you could have artificial intelligence work for you, would you take advantage? Well, with programs like Amazon’s ‘Alexa’ and ‘Google Assistant,’ virtual reality is actually a reality! However, at what point do things get too creepy? ???? The team over at Google Assistant announced that the artificial intelligence program has new advancements including making very human-like calls for you.
While onstage at I/O 2018, CEO Sundar Pichai played back a phone recording that the Assistant made to a hair salon. In a clip from the event, you can hear that the AI helper’s voice sounds incredibly human and the person on the other end of the phone had no idea that they weren’t talking to a human.
The amazing thing is that Assistant can actually understand the nuances of conversation,” Pichai said. “We’ve been working on this technology for many years. It’s called Google Duplex.” Google plans to test Duplex inside of Assistant this summer in order to “help users make restaurant reservations, schedule hair salon appointments, and get holiday hours over the phone.”
Pichai’s objective is just to make life easier for the average person. “We’re still developing this technology, and we want to work hard to get this right,” he said. “We really want it to work in cases, say, if you’re a busy parent in the morning and your kid is sick and you want to call for a doctor’s appointment.”
