Roommates, please keep the family of Andre Emmett in your thoughts and prayers. The former NBA player and current #Big3 star was gunned down in the Dallas area this morning.
The incident happened in front of his home, according to Yahoo Sports. Officials with the Dallas Police Department said the new father was sitting in his car right in front of his residence early this morning when two unknown suspects approached Emmett.
The men pulled a handgun on Emmett and an altercation ensued, Dallas police said. During the fight, Emmett was shot as he ran away from the men. He was found by a passerby several hundred feet from his residence. That individual called 911 and Emmett was taken to a hospital for treatment but unfortunately he did not survive.
Police are looking for the two men involved, with one described as a tall, thin black male wearing a red hat. They were reportedly seen entering a white Chrysler 300. It wasn’t immediately clear if Emmett knew his attackers.
No suspect is currently under arrest and the police are looking for help from Emmett’s neighborhood to help solve the crime.
According to Yahoo Sports, Emmett was a Dallas legend who was born in the city and played his high school ball there. He went on to be one of the better players in Texas Tech history and was even inducted into the school’s Red Raider hall of fame last year.
He ultimately played 14 games in the NBA (and spent numerous seasons playing overseas and making a good living). This past summer he was the second-leading scorer in the Big3 league.
There was an outpouring of condolonces and prayers from fellow hoopers and fans in the comments of Emmett’s most recent Instagram posts.
We continue to pray for Emmett’s family during this difficult time.
