Once again, Tyler Perry is proving just how charitable he can be. As residents of the Bahamas are still dealing with the devastating fallout from Hurricane Dorian, Perry has pledged to help out financially.
As reported by The Grio (@thegrio,) Tyler Perry publicly stated that he would do all he could to help the Bahamas as they begin the long road to rebuilding the island that’s been ravaged by Hurricane Dorian. He stated, “as soon as I can, I will be there to do whatever I can to help you rebuild stronger and better.”
Hurricane Dorian swept through the Bahamas and caused severe damage to the island, including destroyed homes, tumbled cars and several toppled power poles and lines that were down for more than 40 hours. The local Bahamian airport is also currently underwater.
According to Red Cross spokesman Matthew Cochrane, over 13,000 homes, about 45% of the homes in Grand Bahama and Abaco, are reported to be severely damaged or completely destroyed. Additionally, United Nations officials estimate that over 60,000 residents on several of the most impacted islands are in desperate need of food—and another 62,000 need clean drinking water.
Bahamian Prime Minister Hubert Minnis recently revealed just how bad things really are for the island:
“We are in the midst of one of the greatest national crises in our country’s history. No effort or resources will be held back.”
As for Perry, who owns a home in the Bahamas, he offered more words of encouragement for residents, saying:
“You’re not only in my heart and my prayers, you’re in my blood. God bless you. Stay Bahamas strong. The sun will shine again.”
We continue to send our thoughts and prayer to all those who have been impacted by Hurricane Dorian.
Roommates, what are your thoughts on this?
