Jay-Z’s music company, Tidal, has been on the come up lately. From “dropping” Rihanna’s album, to Queen Bey releasing her new single ‘Formation’ via the music service. You could probably say that the streaming service is making a statement for themselves and is here to stay!
While Tidal has made themselves known for their music, the company is not making it any issue to give back to the community too! On Friday, the same day Trayvon Martin would have been 21 years old, it was announced that 1.5 million would be donated to the #BlackLivesMatter foundation.
The money was raised from the sold out charity concert (Tidal X: 10/20) that Tidal had put on back in October where performances from Nicki Minaj, Beyoncé, Nick Jonas, and a bunch of our other favorite artists were spotted. Much of the money will be donated to civil rights groups and social donations as well as the families who started foundations that were affected by police brutality!
Diana Diaz, the philanthropy manager at Roc Nation, spoke out about Tidal’s many efforts in giving back. She said, “The process of acquiring recommendations [for nonprofits] was collaborative and inspired by the message that speaks to racial and social inequities and injustice in our society.” She continued, “Each year we will support a different initiative. Our ideology is to have a hifi level of consciousness in everything we do.”
