The Curry’s are giving back to their community in the Bay Area in a major way. Recently it was announced that the Stephen And Ayesha Curry Family Foundation would be funding an annual scholarship for college-bound female students with interest in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) field.
As we previously reported, Steph Curry teamed up with 9-year-old Riley Morrison to design a sneaker after she wrote him a unique letter last year. However, Steph wasn’t comfortable with profiting from Riley’s shoe design. Therefore, he decided to go to Under Armor to use the proceeds for a scholarship.
The inaugural recipient for the $30,000 scholarship was announced during Friday’s Warrior’s game against the Nuggets.
According to the statement posted to the foundation’s Twitter, the scholarship will be will be paid out over two years and requires the beneficiary to maintain a 3.0 GPA.
Vivan Wu, who was the first recipient of the scholarship has a 4.2 GPA and has completed 300+ hours of community service. She’s an advocate for marginalized communities, including survivors of domestic violence.
It’s great to see Steph and Ayesha Curry give back to the youth in such a major way.
