We learned earlier that Cam Newton has turned a blind eye to what his fans are considering criticism rooted in racism. If you missed that, catch up here (https://stg.theshaderoom.com/cam-newton-believes-that-were-beyond-racism-as-a-nation/)!
Luckily fans can through a kudos in with their backlash after a story broke that he is no stranger to good deeds.
ESPN reports that during his time in Baltimore for a preseason game against the Ravens, Cam was spotted giving an expensive dinner to a homeless man.
Cam and a few teammates were leaving froma dinner outting at Sullivan’s when Candace and Danmon Gregory say he had two bags of food which appeared to be full meals as opposed to leftovers.
He walked up to the man holding a “Homeless Please help hungry — food” sign and gave him the bags.
“People talk about him dabbing and all the stuff that in my mind ultimately should be irrelevant, because that doesn’t get to the heart of who he is,” Candace said about Cam. “I once saw him give something to a disabled child at a practice and people were like, ‘Oh, it’s a photo opportunity.’ But this was when nobody was looking. That’s why we shared it, because character is what you do when nobody is looking.”
It’s always a joy to hear about a little positivity from celebrities and athletes–especially when it’s assumed to be genuine. If Joe Webb, the Panthers’ backup quarterback says situations like this happen all the time. He supposedly orders a to-go meal if he knows someone in close vicinity is in need. In fact, Joe says Cam will sometimes go as far as planning outings just to deliver food to the homeless.
“It’s like second nature for him,” Joe said. “It’s no surprise that he did it. A lot of people say, ‘What are you doing when people aren’t looking?’ It speaks volumes that he’s a great person.”
It’s not uncommon for people to celebrities and athletes of fishing for photo-ops and for those who say such things about Cam’s feeding the homeless, miss Candace wants you to know that it was obvious that he wasn’t trying to draw attention to himself.
“They were walking in a group and he slid over, gave the guy the bag and kept moving. It was a quick, smooth motion, like he was handing the ball off to a running back,” Candace said. “He didn’t linger. He didn’t talk to the guy. You could tell he was trying to be discreet about it.”
We wonder what Cam’s critics have to say about this!
