#TSRPositiveImages: Atlanta Mayor Turned Her Viral ‘Struggle Mac N’ Cheese’ Into A Campaign That Raised $37K For Food Banks

Leave it to #Atlanta Mayor #KeishaBottoms to use her #BlackGirlMagic and turn her struggle #MacNCheese into something that can actually help people.

In case y’all need a refresher, Bottoms was clowned on social media after she shared a pic of her macaroni and cheese, which many said looked less than appetizing. And Bottoms, being a good sport, joined in on the fun but not before she could turn this opportunity to actually do some good by feeding the hungry.

Her “More Than Mac” campaign, in conjunction with #Kroger, raised more than $37,000 for the Atlanta Community Food Bank, according to @ajcnews. For nearly three weeks, Kroger customers rounded up their purchases to the nearest dollar or could donate an amount of their choosing to the campaign.

Each $1 raised provided the food bank with four meals. The donations created 148,000 meals through the campaign, which began January 31st and ended on February 16th.

“We are grateful for the compassion shown during this campaign – from both our corporate and nonprofit partners and the shoppers who stepped up to this challenge and raised awareness and funds to combat hunger in our city,” Bottoms said in a news release.

She continued, “Issues of inequity, such as food insecurity in our communities, must be met with thoughtful action, and we remain committed to finding innovative ways to assist our most vulnerable residents.”

We applaud Bottoms for taking a viral moment and turning it into something positive to feed those in need!
