#TSRPositiveImages: 7 Year Old Born Without Hands Wins A Writing Contest!

Anaya Ellick is a student at Greenbrier Christian Academy in Chesapeake, VA. and when she enrolled, superintendent Ron White wasn’t sure if the school could optimize her learning, considering she was born without hands. However, Anaya’s parents insisted that their baby girl would be just fine and that she was just as bright as any other child her age.

Ellick doesn’t use any prosthetics, yet she uses her forearms to grip her pencil. Her penmanship was perfect to her principal Tracy Cox, so she took the liberty of entering her student into a writing competition in the category for special needs students. Anaya actually beat 50 other students to win the Nicholas Maxim Special Award for Excellence in Manuscript Penmanship!!

Look at how perfect her lettering is:

The Washington Post:

During an assembly with older children, Cox told them about Anaya’s award. She teased them that they had no excuses for sloppy handwriting.

“It’s easy to complain about things that are hard, but you look at a little girl like her and we have no excuses for digging in and doing hard work,” Cox said. “Life is tough and we are going to be faced with challenges, but when you really apply yourself and have that determination, she shows amazing things can happen.”

This young lady is truly an inspiration! You can do anything you set your mind to, Roommates, so don’t let your mind limit you to “normal” ways of thinking!
