#TSRFoodies: KFC Is Now Selling Chicken And Waffles

Chicken and waffles went from being a southern comfort food to a brunch staple across the nation.

Restaurants have tried to cash in on the popularity of the sweet and savory dish by making it a menu item, but only recently has a fast food chain stepped up to the plate to take a swing at it.

Well, if you’re tired of going to trap brunches and having people swag surf by ya chicken and waffles, or just want your meal quick, #KentuckyFriedChicken has got you covered. From now until December 31st, customers can choose between KFC’s extra crispy chicken or extra crispy chicken tenders, served with waffles and Mrs. Butterworth’s syrup for their meal, according to @USAToday.

The dishes will be available at KFC’s nearly 4,200 restaurants across the U.S. and are starting at $5.49.

If you want your meal even more on the go, KFC is also making a sandwich form of the beloved dish available. The sandwich will contain KFC’s Hot Honey fried chicken breast filet between two waffles for $5.99.

“Our famous extra crispy, savory fried chicken atop a Belgian Liege-style waffle, with the finishing touch of classic Mrs. Butterworth’s syrup, makes for a scrumptious dish I’d put up against versions at upscale restaurants, but we’re offering it at a price just about anyone can afford,” said KFC’s U.S. chief marketing officer Andrea Zahumensky in a statement.

KFC tried 15 different waffle variations before opting for thick, Belgian Liege-style waffles made with a yeast-raised dough instead of a batter, said KFC’s head chef Bob Das in a statement. The result, he said, “is sweeter and doughier than American-style waffles.”

KFC is trying to be ahead of the game, although I have to wonder if other fried chicken chains will follow suit.

#Roommates, will you be trying KFC’s chicken and waffles? Let us know!
