“Chrisley Knows Best” stars Todd and Julie Chrisley have turned themselves into the feds this morning on tax evasion charges.
The couple reportedly came to Atlanta to be arrested and will appear in federal court today for a first appearance, Atlanta’s WSBTV reports.
Fans of the popular USA Network show were shook yesterday when a federal grand jury indicted the couple on tax evasion and other charges including alleged bank fraud.
The Chrisleys have not switched up their story and have maintained their innocence. They turned themselves in because they reportedly said they have done nothing wrong, so there’s no need to run from the investigation.
The 12-count indictment also includes charges of wire fraud, conspiracy to commit bank fraud and conspiracy to defraud the United States, NBC News reports. The couple could reportedly serve up to 30 years in prison.
Todd Chrisley took to social media on Monday to post a lengthy message in defense of his family.
“(We) have nothing to hide and have done nothing to be ashamed of,” he wrote in the post alongside a photo of his smiling family. “Not only do we know we’ve done nothing wrong, but we’ve got a ton of hard evidence and a bunch of corroborating witnesses that proves it.”
The tight-knit Chrisley family moved from the northern Atlanta suburbs to the Nashville area a few years ago. The criminal charges are actually linked to their time in the Georgia cities of Roswell and Alpharetta.
In the post, Chrisley claimed that the legal drama really comes from an unidentified former employee who was fired back in 2012 after the family learned he had been “stealing from us big time.”
He said the ex-employee then retaliated against the family by delivering “phony documents” to the U.S. attorney’s office and lying to federal prosecutors that “we had committed all kinds of financial crimes.”
