I think Beyonce’s “Homecoming” documentary on #Netflix had an impact that speaks for itself. She made history as the first Black woman to headline #Coachella and her and her team’s journey to that world-class performance is nothing less than inspiring.
And maybe the Emmys thought so too when the film was nominated for six creative arts Emmys but after she went home empty-handed last night (figuratively speaking as she was not in attendance), social media users took the Emmys to task for what they felt was so obviously a snub.
“Homecoming” was nominated for the following categories: Outstanding variety special (pre-recorded), outstanding costumes for variety, non-fiction or reality programming; outstanding directing for a variety special; outstanding music direction; outstanding production design for a variety special and outstanding writing for a variety special, according to @hollywoodreporter. Beyoncé herself was listed as a nominee in four of those categories, all but outstanding costumes and production design.
“Homecoming” lost to James Corden’s “Carpool Karaoke” special featuring Paul McCartney for best variety special and to “RuPaul’s Drag Race” for best costumes for variety, nonfiction or reality programming. SWIPE to see what Twitter users had to say about Beyonce and “Homecoming” losing.
