Roommates, if there’s one thing we all wish we had more of in school, it’s definitely music education! Verizon has officially announced a partnership with Pharrell to bring that wish to life.
The duo will launch a music curriculum that incorporates technology in Verizon Innovative Learning schools, billboard exclusively reports. Verizon’s education organizations works to provide free technology, internet access, and tech-focused curriculum to under-resourced schools.
“I want all children to have access to that kind of creative growth, access and support. All kids, not just my own,” Pharrell told billboard. “There’s a lot of variables in a situation as to why something falls apart, but there’s only one scenario where it holds together.”
Pharrell hopes the partnership will bring students closer to music in an extraordinary way. The partnership includes building a Verizon Innovation Learning Lab.
Located in Pharrell’s hometown of Virginia Beach, the lab will give students a hands on approach to augmented reality, virtual reality, robotics and machine learning.
Pharrell says the gift of learning doesn’t just come because there’s a teacher present, but there has to a balance of what he called ‘variables’.
“The environment, the family, the school, the system–there’s so many things,” he said. “We just want to do what we can to balance the odds so that as many kids as we can afford, or help and assist in whatever ways, get this access and support.”
Verizon has not released any information about when the program will begin, but we hope students can begin very soon!
