Roommates, looks like Burger King is going to be headed to court after a group of vegans couldn’t have it their way!
According to TMZ, a man named Phillip Williams has just filed a class-action lawsuit, claiming Burger King has falsely advertised its Impossible Whopper. According to the lawsuit, the burger cannot truly be considered vegan because it’s cooked on the same grill as meat burgers.
Williams says his burger was “contaminated” by meat products at a Burger King in Atlanta.
The lawsuit says Burger King does not notify customers that the burgers are cooked in a way that would result in meat by-products being on the burger.
Williams is not only requesting damages in the suit, he also wants the judge to order Burger King to stop cooking Impossible Whoppers and the original burgers on the same grill.
As we previously reported, BK announced the released of it’s first plant-based burger back in April, shortly after a testing period. The Burger, which uses a plant-based patty from Impossible Foods, was tested in St. Louis and reportedly exceeded the company’s expectations in taste.
“The Impossible Whopper is designed to give somebody who wants to eat a burger every day, but doesn’t necessarily want to eat beef everyday, permission to come into the restaurants more frequently,” President of Burger King North America, Chris Finasso said.
The restaurant’s goal is reportedly to give people more of an opportunity to have a more balanced diet if they so choose. Impossible Foods hopes that plant-based foods begins to have a lasting impact world-wife.
“It seems like the world is coming around,” Impossible Foods CEO said. “They are seeing that plant-based meats can be delicious and recognizing this in the face os catastrophic effects of animal farming.”
