TSR Foodies: Burger King started testing its first veggie-burger on April 1st, and it looks lit passed the test! The ‘Impossible Whopper’ is going to be rolled out nationally this year.
The burger, which uses a plant-based patty from impossible Foods, was tested in St. Louis and exceeded the company’s expectations in taste, CNN reports. Customers said the burger tastes just like the whopper BK already serves, which is the goal.
Burger King’s hope is to serve customers who eat meat, but want a more balanced diet! President of Burger King North America told CNN the burger is meant to welcome all customers into BK restaurants.
“The impossible Whopper is designed to give somebody who wants to eat a burger every day, but doesn’t necessarily want to eat eat beef everyday, permission to come into the restaurants more frequently,” Chris Finazzo said.
The burger is built to mimic the Whopper, particularly in texture. Unlike most veggie burgers, the Impossible Whopper is designed to have the same texture of meat when it is cooked.
The company plans to expand to more markets “in the very near future”, and making the sandwich available nationally by the end of the year in all 7,300 US locations.
Impossible foods hopes plant-based foods will have a life changing impact not only on BK customers, but meat eaters world-wide.
“It seems like the world is coming around,” Impossible Foods CEO said. “They are seeing that plant-based meats can be delicious and recognizing this in the face of catastrophic effects of animal farming.”
